Topic: Prevalence and predictors of suicidal ideation among females and males in northwestern urban China: a population-based epidemiological study

Abstract:

Suicide is an urgent public health problem in China. Suicidal ideation, a strong predictor for subsequent suicide, has been widely studied. Based on the data of 4021 community residents from northwestern China, in 2008, this study systematically analyzed the prevalence, predictors and gender differences of suicidal ideation. Significant gender differences were confirmed in the prevalence and risk factors, therefore, gender should be an important factor while conducting suicide prevention in the future.

Topic: A four-year repeated cross-sectional study for post-traumatic stress disorder and physical health among adult survivors of the Wenchuan earthquake in China

Abstract:

On May 12, 2008, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck the northwestern Sichuan province of China. It killed 69,227 people, injured 374,643, and left 17,923 missing and millions of people homeless. However, the long-term sequelae of earthquake have been studied less extensively. A recent systematic review showed that the number of health related academic articles dropped dramatically 2 years after the earthquake, which, to some extent, reflected, that researchers ignored the long term impact of a disaster to the affected population. This study seek to estimate the prevalence of PTSD symptoms after earthquake at different time point, to identify factors associated with PTSD, and to examine the relationship between PTSD symptoms and physical health using data from a repeated cross-sectional survey in China.
